Well, I think I spoke too soon in the last blog when I said that we had a lot of problems on set that day. Today was definitely fraught with issues from rainy weather to almost constant airplane traffic in the skies. Not to mention the security guard who seemed to drive by on his golf cart at the most inopportune times. It’s really incredible what a delicate balance filmmaking is and how long it can take to get just one shot perfect. Our location today was at an office building that used to be a home and it was so beautiful. We shot in the gardens in the front of the house and in one of the hallways inside. It was a challenge shooting in the gardens today because the weather was so bipolar. One minute it was raining and the next the sun was shining and it was a perfect day! I guess that’s just the nature of Florida’s weather. It’s hard trying to shoot a whole scene when the weather is constantly changing because two shots from the same scene can look so different. It takes a talented Director of Photography to be able to fight the changing elements. Audio is probably the most important thing in a film and the audience never really realizes this. Think about it, you don’t always notice when the cinematography is mediocre, but you will always notice if you can’t hear dialogue or if a sound effect is missing. This is one of the reasons why our audio issues today were so frustrating; we want the film to sound good as well as look good and that’s difficult when you are constantly interrupted by airplanes, golf carts, and the like. But, overall, the day still went very well and we were able to shoot the scenes where we had constructed our own tomb and our own spaceship door. Making props with actual moving parts is always fun because it makes it more realistic in camera, and also you get to say that you constructed a spaceship door. Well, that’s all the updates I have for now, and we get a day off tomorrow (kind of) so I will be updating you again on Monday!
